Job Summary:
The Vice President of Commercial Lending will focus on achieving sustainable growth while maintaining sound credit quality. The VP will be responsible for providing oversight of commercial and small business lending initiatives to optimize and enhance First State Bank’s competitive position. This individual will sustain a close working relationship with the Community President of the Bloomington branch to develop and increase commercial and retail deposit accounts in the Champaign market.
This position is not a remote position, nor does it have the option of being a hybrid position.
Work schedule is Monday through Friday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Passionate about serving clients and improving the efficiency and success of their operations.
- Foster new business, prospects and generate commercial loans through referrals, business calls, and community involvement.
- Develop and execute commercial lending strategies to increase lending volume and market share while maintaining strong portfolio performance.
- Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities for product development and business expansion.
- Develop strong relationships with key shareholders, including business owners, industry associations, and government entities.
- Ensure the asset quality of the loan portfolio. Review delinquency reports with direct supervisor to ensure proper collection efforts are being utilized to manage the credit risk of the portfolio. Maintain low loan delinquency and ensure that there are no administrative past due loans. Communicate timely and in a comprehensive manner with your supervisor concerning any credit that is experiencing stress.
- Work with a predetermined lending limit, analyze customer credit applications; balance sheets and profit and loss statement; and cash flow projections in order to make sound loan decisions and predict future repayment capacity. Coordinate these efforts with personnel in the Loan Department.
- Maintain deep awareness of the economic and regulatory environment, assessing risks and opportunities to guide strategic decision-making.
- Interview loan applicants and collect and analyze financial and related data to determine the general creditworthiness of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan request.
- Will have extensive contact with customers and the public. Conduct relationships in a manner that will enhance the overall marketing effort of the bank.
- Will be called upon to participate with community organizations relations and community projects.
- Other duties or special projects as assigned by management.

Experience and Education:
- Bachelor's degree of science in fields such as Business, Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
- Minimum seven years of Commercial/Business lending experience with at least 5 years of experience developing and managing business assets.
- Management experience is required.

- Cashes checks for customers after verifying identification and checking account balances in accordance with bank policy.
- Enter transactions into the Fiserv Teller product and issue customer receipts.
- Redeem Savings bonds.
- Process credit card cash advances.
- Count cash balance at beginning of shift, and balances cash and checks, against computer records at the end of shift.
- Prepare bank cashier’s checks.
- Explain bank services and charges to customers.
- Observe suspicious behavior and report any such activity to the Branch Manager and/or security personnel as appropriate. In the event of a robbery, remain calm and follow bank procedures to safeguard customers and staff.
- Balance ATM, coin machines, teller drawer and vault.
- Promote the bank’s services and cross sell bank products.
- Make a concentrated effort to solve customer problems.
- Be knowledgeable of Patriot Act.

CSR duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Opening accounts in Navigator/Fiserv (personal & business) including HSA, IRA and Trust accounts.
- Promote bank services and cross sell bank products.
- Assisting customers with opening or renewing Certificates of Deposit.
- Troubleshooting a variety of customer issues.
- Closing accounts.
- Placing check orders.
- Opening and closing Safe Deposit Boxes.
- Check back daily maintenance.
- Scanning.
- Answering phones.
- Backing up each CSR.
- Be knowledgeable of Patriot Act.
- Participate in community activities to enhance public awareness of the bank.
