Wednesday,March 14, 2018, St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at Jacob Henry Mansion, Joliet, IL (Featuring the “Chicago Irish Band”)
What is more Irish than bagpipes and Corned Beef and Cabbage? You can enjoy both and much more as we visit the Jacob Henry Mansion in Joliet, IL for a St. Patrick’s Day Celebration!
We will begin our visit with a self-guided tour of the Jacob Henry Mansion. This is a Historical City, State and National Landmark, boasting over 40 rooms with a delightful blend of past and present. This award-winning Mansion, built in 1873, is known for its original beauty and old Victorian charm. We can also stroll through the Old Central Church. This beautifully decorated church is a classic example of grand churches in the late 1800’s. The chapel has been completely remodeled, preserving its original condition, from the hand-carved stained pillars to the massive domed ceiling and the working pipe organ.
We will also experience a bit of Ireland at the Mansion Ballroom! Lunch will include Aunt Annie’s famous award-winning corned beef and cabbage—voted the best in Will County, along with potatoes and carrots, tossed garden salad, warm rolls, dessert, and coffee or tea. If you are feeling especially Irish, you can enjoy a green beer or Irish whiskey available at the cash bar!
After lunch you can get into the Irish spirit and enjoy traditional Celtic music, with a live bagpipe and drum performance and heart-warming Irish songs from the “Chicago Irish Band.” Close your eyes and imagine you are strolling the hills of Killarney and visiting the “Emerald Isle”!

Friday, April 27, 2018 -- Manufacturing & Mayhem, Rock Island, IL
Our day begins with a visit to the John Deere Harvester Factory where we will witness a John Deere combine being made! Tours begin in the Visitor Center where you learn about different crops and how these huge machines make harvesting faster and easier. Then the group will hop on a mobile cart for a 1-1/2 hour guided tour as you watch these amazing combines being manufactured from beginning to end. Exclusive Harvester Works merchandise is also available for sale in the gift shop. NOTE: Tours are subject to factory production schedules. There could be a slight possibility the factory will not be in production the day we go. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Next, we continue on to the always popular Circa 21 Playhouse for a new Church Basement Ladies production of Rise Up O Men. A sumptuous plated lunch will be served in the beautifully restored 1920’s theatre (on the National Register of Historic Places). Your wait staff—the Bootleggers—will perform a pre-show musical revue, and then watch as the stage comes alive with the magic of professional theatre by performers from across the nation. You can also choose to have your delicious dessert served after lunch or during intermission!
This is a brand new musical comedy featuring the men of the church and your favorite church basement ladies who serve them. As these hard-working farmers discuss their scrap lumber piles and the benefits of solder vs. weld while trying to make repairs, they unintentionally disrupt the order of the kitchen, causing mayhem. But that’s what happens when you let roosters in the hen house! Rise Up, O Men spans several days in the life of a small rural Lutheran church circa 1964.
Fee includes: Factory tour, show, meal, transportation, taxes and tips. Any cancellations will be refunded if we can fill your vacancy.
Pick-Up Schedule: Depart Rochelle Petro at 7:00 a.m., Mendota Civic Center at 7:30 a.m., LaSalle Flying J at 8:00 a.m., Princeton Road Ranger TBD. Return to LaSalle at approximately 6:00 p.m., Mendota at 6:30 p.m., and Rochelle at 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, November 7, 2018 -- Italian Chicago, Chicago, IL
We have all heard the stories about gangsters and the Mafia in Chicago — now is your chance to experience them (if you dare) for yourself! Join Vista as we travel around Chicago to learn more about these larger-than-life characters and how they lived.
Our first stop will be at Tommy Gun’s Garage, an interactive speakeasy which offers a musical comedy review with gangsters, flappers and YOU! After a delicious sit down lunch with your choice of prime rib, lasagna or chicken breast, you will join Vito Gloves, “da gangsters” and “da flappers” for non-stop comedy and dangerous fun. Musical selections from Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington and more will all be played by Chicago’s Sinfully Orchestra. Be ready to hide your hooch (available at the cash bar—and you must pay in cash—the green stuff!) because the speakeasy could be raided by “da coppers” at any time!
Next, we will continue on to experience the Untouchables Tour. A “questionable character” will join us on our coach for this 1-1/2 hour bus tour around the city! We will experience the city as it was in the 1920’s- see old gangster hot spots and hit spots, hear historically accurate accounts of the exploits of Capone, Moran, Dillinger and the rest of the boys. We will enjoy a journey into the past as we cruise the city in search of the old hoodlum haunts, brothels, gambling dens and sites of gangland shootouts!
Finally, we will make a stop at Eataly, Chicago’s Italian marketplace. This 63,000 sq.ft. store offers anything and everything Italian you could want! There are two floors and dozens upon dozens of aisles of groceries, along with 22 (or so) different restaurants and bars...it is literally enormous! The quality of everything is astonishingly high, from the delicate handmade pasta and crusty bread to the impeccably fresh fish, cheeses and dry-aged beef. Spend some time browsing the complex, enjoy a glass of wine, or grab something to eat for supper or the ride home.
Fee includes: Tommy Gun's show and meal, Gangster Tour, transportation, taxes and tips. Supper is on your own at Eataly. Any cancellations will be refunded if we can fill your vacancy.
