Northern Region Departures

To kick off 2016 with a unique venue, we are traveling into Chicago and the first stop will be at the Richard Driehaus Museum. We will be treated to a self-guided exhibition (with headsets) showing the costumes used in the very popular Downton Abbey PBS series located on three levels of the museum. They will span several eras from pre-WW I into the 1930's. This exhibit is only available for a limited time, and Vista has reservations for it!

Then, did you resolve to make 2016 the year to take your gardening skills – and your garden – to the next level? Learn from the experts presenting their best advice and hands–on demonstrations at this year's Chicago Flower and Garden Show for a breath of spring! The show welcomes more than 40,000 attendees to the Festival Halls in Navy Pier, where you can experience every facet of horticulture. While visiting, attendees can walk through life-sized gardens, participate in DIY workshops, learn from educational seminars, enjoy garden–to–table cooking presentations and more. Through the decades of the show's experience, its legacy remains the same: it continues to capture the hearts of thousands year after year.

Stop for lunch on your own when you get hungry. Visit the café conveniently located inside the Festival Hall or take time to eat at one of the many restaurants on Navy Pier. Did we mention shopping? Mariano's, one of the sponsors of the CF&GS will have a stunning array of cut flowers, potted plants and bare root garden plants that will be sure to lift your spirits and tempt you to take a souvenir home with you. If that isn't enough, there are over 100 vendors that can supply all of your gardening and garden related needs.

Cost: $68 per ticket

Includes: Exhibition, CF&GS ticket, transportation, taxes and all tips. (Lunch is on your own.)

THURSDAY, APRIL 7, 2016 -- "PETER PAN" at Fireside Theatre, Fort Atkinson, WI

The Fireside Dinner Theatre is always a favorite destination of our First State Bank Vista Club members! Their delicious meals, dazzling shows, charming gift shops, decadent bakery items, and warm hospitality make this trip a pleasurable day away. This year we have planned a visit to the Fireside to see the timeless Disney musical, "Peter Pan." Are you curious as to how Peter will fly across the stage? We are, and we're sure it will be unique as only the Fireside can present. As Peter Pan and his fairy companion Tinkerbell fly through London, they encounter Wendy and her brothers and Peter takes them all to his home in Neverland. They meet the Lost Boys, Pirates, Indians, and the evil Captain Hook. The magical adventure turns dangerous and ultimately teaches everyone the true power of friendship! With happy music, high-spirited dancing, fanciful costumes, and the escapades of Peter, you will enjoy this show filled with thrills, laughs and love.

Come along and enjoy the delicious meal planned for you including Tomato Bisque soup accompanied by a Grilled Cheese Slider. Sample the freshly baked breads from the Artisan Bakery -- you may want to purchase a loaf to take home. Next we will be served a Havarti Cheese Stuffed Breast of Chicken, rolled in pretzel crumbs and sautéed, baked and served with a balsamic raspberry sauce. The chicken will be complimented with creamy garlic and asparagus risotto and a baked stuffed tomato with herbed croutons, bacon and feta cheese. Homemade lemon custard in a pecan meringue crust topped with strawberry coulis and fresh whipped cream will top off the meal. Coffee, tea and milk and also included.

These two strong, passionate people from two very different cultures discuss, debate, disagree, and ultimately fall in love to the tunes of some of Broadway's greatest songs. The Lyric Opera House provides a gorgeous setting for the story. You won't want to miss this popular spectacle!

THURSDAY, JUNE 2, 2016 -- "NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT" at Theatre At the Center, Munster, IN

Set in the 1920s, this is a story of charming and wealthy playboy Jimmy Winter, who meets rough female bootlegger Billie Bendix on the weekend of his 3rd wedding (or is it his 4th???). Thinking Jimmy will be out of town, Billie and her gang hide cases of alcohol in the basement of Jimmy's Long Island mansion. But when Jimmy, his wife-to-be and her prohibitionist family show up at the mansion for the wedding, Billie and her cohorts pose as servants, causing hijinks galore. You won't want to miss the fun!

We may add another attraction or shopping stop to this venue.

Cost: To be determined per ticket

Includes: Lunch, performance, transportation, taxes and all tips.

We are still working on all of the details for this adventure but you won't want to miss this leisurely cruise from Dubuque to Savanna, IL where you will see the beginning of the beautiful Fall colors along the Mississippi River. Our cruise will begin with their delicious "sticky buns" followed by a delicious 2-meat buffet. Upon departure from the ship, we hope to have arrangements finalized for a rare tour of Havencrest Castle where you will be transported to a fascinating fairytale world of romantic love and art.

Cost: To be determined
